Ephesus, Turkey

Ephesus, Turkey in May.  This is some of the details left of the 3000 year old city of Ephesus.

This was a huge city and only 15% of it is uncovered.  Many  of the streets are still intact. . . one of them made of marble where only VIPs could walk.  The tallest structure is the facade of the library.  It was quite amazing.  Paul spent over 2 years of his mission here and we can see why.  This is a beautiful city in a scenic, seaside location.  He wrote to the Corinthians from Ephesus.

More of the statues

This is one of the larger theatres that seated 2500.

Detail carved into these stones. . . how did they do it?  No lazer work here

I don't know how these rocks are staying upright.  Must not have been too many erthquakes here.

It took a lot to get us on top of this pillar.  It was kind of wobbly, so we didn't dare pose too much.

 The Group
This was the "goddess, Diane or Artimus that the ephesians worshipped.  When Paul preached against this, many of the silversmiths were up in arms against him, because it was putting them out of the business of making these idols for everyone.  Paul was chastened publicly quite a bit in Ephesus.  But, still he is legendary as a missionary here and it's been thousands of years later.  Hmmm.

These are our leaders Henry Kosak and his assistant, Sergey.  They were awesome instructors!  This is us on the bus at the end.

This is Anna, the secretary and hard worker on the many, many details behind the scenes. . . she is exhausted!
