Transformer

(This still makes me chuckle)
Well we often get to go with the elders on teaching opportunities and we were in the kitchen drinking (herbal) tea with this non-member lady and I commented on what a nice LARGE fridge freezer she had. So the elder translated my comments to her. And then she proceeded to tell me all about her fridge. I think she said she really enjoyed it, but it often made noises. Well, the Elder Peterson translating back to me said: "It's actually a transformer and runs on radioactive material" I tried not to listen to him because I didn't want to burst out laughing as she continued to tell me all about her fridge. I would smile and nod at her as she continued . . ."Yada, Yada, Yada" Elder translates "It may blow any minute, but don't worry about it" . . . I smile and nod. . . "Yada, Yada, Yada" Elder translates: "When I tell you, just hit the ground". . . I smile and nod and kick him under the table and try not laugh.

So later on after we left I say to the elders that "I guess anything we say, you just translate into anything you want to, right?" So Elder Larkin told me that they figured that out a long time ago and sometimes it IS necessary. They were giving the 2nd lesson to an investigator and one of the English speaking senior missionaries jumps in to explain the degrees of glory and starts into D&C 77 and 130 and all the heavy doctrine about the white stone and sea of glass and etc. The elder let him go on and on and then translated : "Let me put this into some simple words for you. . . Jesus loves you very much!. . . . " I really got a chuckle out of that.

So, yesterday in Sunday School class, the instructor was talking SO fast and went on and on. Elder Larkin was my translator in class and after several minutes of "Yada, Yada, Yada" he turns to me and says: "Sister Aland, Jesus loves you very much."

I LOVE THESE ELDERS . . . THEY MAKE ME LAUGH I hope this brightened your day as well.
